Broken Down? 3 Ways You Can Help Your Mechanic Get You Back On The Road Quicker

by Vicky Mills

Being stranded on the side of the road is one of the most stressful experiences known to man. Fortunately, you don't have to go it alone. A mobile mechanic can come to your location and get you back on the road, which will allow you to avoid the tow truck and auto shop altogether. If you decide to hire a mobile mechanic, there are a few things you can do to help out. Following are three ways you can help your mechanic get you back on the road quicker.

Move the Car to a Safe Area

If it's at all possible, move your car to a safe area where your mechanic will have plenty of room to work. A parking lot is ideal, but you must get permission from the property owner before doing so. If you can't get the vehicle to a parking lot, try to move it to an area where the shoulder is wide enough for you to get several feet away from passing traffic. When looking for a location to park your car, be sure to look for obstructions, such as a hill, tree or building, that might make it difficult for other motorists to see you. The goal is to be clearly visible.

Don't Touch Anything

While it's tempting to piddle around under the hood to try to figure out what's wrong with your car, don't do it unless you're a licensed mechanic, or have other comparable experience fixing cars. You might think you're trying to help, only to make the problem worse. Something as simple as loosening the wrong wire or breaking a bolt can make your repair minutes or hours longer than it should have been.

Keep Car Maintenance Records

Keep a car maintenance and auto shop log in your car that lists the dates your car was in the shop and the services performed on your car. A clearly detailed history may help your mechanic diagnose your problem faster, especially if there has been a chronic mechanical issue. By looking at a log, your mechanic, like those at Immortal Auto Moto, may also notice that certain vital routine services were not performed on time or at all. This can also help them diagnose a problem.

There are several ways you can make your mechanic's job easier. And when their job is easier, you can get back on the road faster. So instead of stressing out the next time you break down, take a few minutes to think about what you can do to help.
