Troubleshooting Tips For Your Audi

by Vicky Mills

Ignoring problems from your Audi can only lead to even bigger issues. In some instances, the problems are easily handled at home. In others, a professional touch is needed. Here are some possible problems that can occur and what you can do about them.

Unusual Noises

Strange noises from your Audi can be an early warning sign that your car is in need of maintenance work. What kind of noise your car is making can help you determine what type of problem you are most likely having.

For instance, a flapping sound from under the hood could be a sign that there is a belt loose. There is also the possibility that there is some interference with the fan. You can inspect both the fan and the belts to determine if there is a sign of wear or interference. If so, schedule an appointment with your mechanic.

A chirping sound could be the result of a belt that needs adjustment by your mechanic. You may also need to inspect your tires for wear.

Whenever you hear an unusual noise, note what it sounds like and from which direction it is coming. You also need to consider when it occurs. All of this information can help your mechanic pinpoint the problem faster.

Engine Not Starting

Although not a common problem, it is possible that your car might refuse to start when the key is turned in the ignition switch. One of the first steps you can take is to check the battery connections. If the connections are dirty or have corrosion, clean them and try to start your car again.

Another issue might be the fuel. If the fuel filter is clogged with debris from the fuel, your car could experience problems with starting. Some Audis require premium gas. If you recently put a lower quality fuel in your car, the tank needs to be drained and the filter changed. If you do not have experience with doing this, your mechanic needs to do it.

The issue could also be related to your fuel pump relay. The relay can sometimes experience problems with the internal contacts. When this occurs, the voltage needed to start the car is not provided.

If you have a multimeter, you can use it to check the relay. Refer to your owner's manual to determine the correct location for the relay and remove it. Attach the multimeter and attempt to start your car. If the voltage is not the level that is indicated in your manual, the relay will need to be changed.

Consult with your mechanic to get the care for your Audi that is needed and to setup a regular maintenance schedule. For more information contact a local dealership or repair shop.
