Should You Have Your Brakes Inspected? 3 Signs It's Time

by Vicky Mills

Your brakes are one of the most important parts of your vehicle. Your vehicle needs brakes in order to stop in time to avoid a collision with another vehicle, or anything else. Your brakes need to be maintained in order to prevent them from failing you when you need them the most. Your brakes require brake pads that are in good shape so there is enough pad in order for your brakes to stop your vehicle in time in the event you need to stop suddenly. If you aren't able to stop in time because your brakes have failed you, you could be left with a lot of repair costs, or worse. If you aren't sure if your brakes need to be inspected or replaced, read on for a few signs that it's time.

1. Your Brake Light Turned On

If you have a brake light in your vehicle that would indicate that you have poor brakes, you should have your brakes inspected to be sure they are not in too bad of shape that they need to be replaced. If your brakes need to be replaced, you should be sure the auto shop replaces your brakes for you. If you have a brake light turned on in your vehicle, much like any other inspection light, you need to pay attention to this and have it inspected.

2. You Aren't Able To Stop Quickly

If you aren't able to stop your vehicle in time, it's going to cause a lot of issues and you could end up in an accident. You need to have your brakes inspected and replaced as needed if you aren't able to stop in time. You may feel like you are pressing your brake pedal down quite a bit more than normal if your brakes aren't working as they should.

3. Your Brakes Are Squealing

If your brakes are squealing when you attempt to stop, it could mean that your brakes are beginning to wear out and you will need to have them replaced very soon, if not already. Waiting too long may cause this noise to worsen, or you could end up in an accident when your brakes end up failing.

If you have noticed any of these signs with your vehicle or your brakes, you need to have them inspected to prevent an accident or injury. Take your vehicle to a professional auto service shop for a brake inspection.
